FAQs

Where will the new Flinders Station be located?

The new Flinders Station is proposed to be located adjacent to the Flinders Medical Centre, approximately 600 metres from the existing Tonsley Railway Station.

What will the project include?

Specifically, the project proposes:

  • A 650m extension of the Tonsley rail line linking the Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders University to the rail network, including 520 metres of elevated single track over Sturt Road, Laffer’s Triangle and Main South Road;
  • Removal of the existing Tonsley Station and construction of a new Flinders Station; and
  • An integrated shared pedestrian/cycle path adjacent the rail line.

What will happen to the existing Tonsley Station?

The existing Tonsley Station can't remain in its current location because of the elevation needed for the train bridge to clear Sturt Road and Main South Road. The existing Tonsley Station will be decommissioned and removed with a new Flinders Station proposed to be built within approximately 600m of the current site linking the Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders University precincts.

Will the Flinders Link Project make a Development Application submission to the State Commission Assessment Panel?

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure has submitted a Development Application to the State Commission Assessment Panel for the Flinders Link Project. For information visit the State Planning Commission.

Is it true that the existing Clovelly Park Station is being re-named?

The existing Clovelly Park Station will be renamed to Tonsley Station, along with renamng the Tonsley Line to the Flinders Line.
