In 2008 the South Australian Government began a decade-long multi billion dollar investment in Adelaide's public transport system designed to transform it into a state-of-the-art system providing faster, greener, more frequent, safer and more efficient services for train, tram and bus commuters.

An important component of this investment is a station upgrade program which will involve the upgrade of selected stations along metropolitan passenger rail lines. As part of this program Blackwood, Coromandel, Eden Hills, Port Adelaide, Hallett Cove and Hallett Cove Beach railway stations have been successfully upgraded.  In addition, the car park at Gawler station has been expanded and new car parks have been constructed at Mawson and Smithfield Interchanges.

Upgraded Hallett Cove Station

From Sunday 18 September, the Gawler line has been closed between Mawson Interchange and Gawler Central for track upgrade works.  During this closure period, some stations along the Gawler line have been upgraded as part of the station upgrade program.

New stations have been built at Elizabeth and Munno Para.

Elizabeth South, Gawler, Chidda and Evanston stations have been upgraded.

Project timing

Works for the station upgrades along the Gawler line started from 18 September 2011.
