The preliminary concept design for the Glenelg Tram Overpass Project was released for public consultation in May 2008. The preliminary design was presented in the second edition of the project Community Update and featured computer generated images detailing what the overpass might look like. Some of the project's key elements were also shown, including a central elevated platform between the two tram tracks, pedestrian friendly area underneath the bridge and indented bus bays adjacent to the overpass.

Consultation with a wide range of stakeholders including local residents, businesses and community facilities, key industry groups, local government, state government agencies, public transport commuters and general public is currently being undertaken to gain feedback on the preliminary concept design. A Community Information ‘Drop In’ Session was held on Saturday 24 May at the Black Forest Primary School and meetings for the residents living on the streets adjacent the tram line were held the following week.

Feedback on the preliminary concept design, including issues of concern and interest, in addition to ideas for the overpass design and general project comments have been sought through the consultation process. The information collected will be used to feed into the final design. In the coming months, a contract for the detailed design and construction of the Glenelg Tram Overpass is expected to be awarded to a design and engineering consortium. At this time, the community will again be provided further opportunities to provide their input during the design and construction period. It is expected that the final design development period will begin mid to late 2008 and will be available for community comment late 2008 or early in 2009.

It is anticipated that an application to the Development Assessment Commission application will be lodged in the coming months and further opportunities for public comment will be provided through this process. Opportunities for community involvement will be widely publicised via this website and printed media.
