Community engagement

The community engagement process for the LeFevre Peninsula Transport Corridor project was undertaken between April and November 2005 and was developed and implemented to define the final concept design of the project.

During this time residents, community members, business and industry groups were given a chance to have their say on the concept design of the project through letters, phone calls, meetings and an open day held at the LeFevre Community Centre in November 2005. Valuable input was received during this time and enabled changes to be made to the final design to address the concerns of residents and businesses in the area. These include:

• basic fencing along sections of the rail corridor adjacent to residential areas to deter children away from the railway tracks
• a range of accommodation works for businesses to enable new access arrangements to work
• cyclist crossings on Pelican Point Road
• the closure of the section of Mersey Road north of Marmora Terrace and South of Brookman Street to ensure vehicles use Veitch Road to access Victoria Road rather than local streets
• landscaping along sections of the rail corridor to provide improved buffers consistent with other local and state government developments in the area
