The master plan developed by the Department of Health for the redevelopment of Glenside has identified five precincts to complement the key objective of improving mental health facilities at Glenside. For further details of this master plan visit http://www.health.sa.gov.au/mentalhealth or contact the SA Health service line on 1800 643 854.
The Adelaide Film and Screen Centre will be located in Precinct 2, where the existing heritage-listed buildings will be used for cultural activities.
A heritage conservation plan will guide the extent of refurbishment and conservation work that may be undertaken and will ensure sympathetic use of the existing buildings.
The heritage-listed main administration building will be upgraded to accommodate the administration activities of the SAFC. Part of this building will be refurbished for lease to businesses related to the screen and film industry.
Other buildings in the precinct will be adapted for production purposes such as wardrobe or make-up, and for post-production activities such as editing and mixing. In addition, four new buildings will be built to provide two modest-sized sound studios (about 1400 sq metres in total), a set construction workshop and a small screening theatre. Views to heritage buildings from Fullarton Road will be maintained.
The hub will be a dynamic working environment bringing together a wide cross section of people who work in the industry such as actors, directors, producers, technicians and set construction builders.
The SAFC welcomes community interest in its activities and looks forward to establishing its new home in such an historic setting.
The hub will contribute to the redevelopment of the Glenside Campus and the community by:
